Perfect Summer Start! Tschofenig Wins on Olympic Hill

Daniel Tschofenig celebrates a perfect start at the summer premiere of Austria's ski jumping stars.

The Carinthian won the first of two competitions in Courchevel at the Summer Grand Prix. The 1992 Olympic hill will also host ski jumping at the 2030 Winter Games.

Joining the overall World Cup winner of the 2024/25 season on the podium were German normal hill Olympic champion Philipp Raimund (-1.7 points) and two-time Summer Grand Prix opener winner Naoki Nakamura (JPN/-4.0).

Tschofenig Overtakes Halftime Leader Ortner

Tschofenig was in second place at halftime, just 0.7 points behind fellow countryman Maximilian Ortner.

A jump of 129.5 meters, along with excellent style points, propelled the 24-year-old into the lead. Ortner landed at 126.5 meters and fell back to fourth place, 4.8 points behind.

Five Austrians in the Top 10

Young star Stephan Embacher finished directly behind him in fifth place; the Tyrolean missed a potential podium spot due to a botched landing in the second round.

Jonas Schuster and Stefan Kraft, in seventh and ninth place respectively, completed the strong Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) result. Jan Hörl finished the competition in 17th position.

Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Dominates Women's Competition

In the women's event, victory went convincingly to two-time Olympic champion Anna Odine Strøm from Norway. She won by 14.2 points ahead of Yuki Ito (JPN), with compatriot Ingvild Synnøve Midtskogen (NOR) finishing third.

Hannah Wiegele was the best Austrian in eighth position, with the 24-year-old gaining six places in the final round. Julia Mühlbacher finished 16th.

Women and men will be in action again on Sunday.
