GAK heads to first win of the season
Two headers secure GAK's first three points of the new Bundesliga season. Lustenau shows good approaches but lacks sufficient determination.
GAK secures a 2-1 victory against SC Austria Lustenau on the second matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
Pines and Hofleitner secure the Graz side's first win of the season with headers.
Pines Puts GAK Ahead
The Graz "Red Jackets" showed significant improvement compared to their weak season opener against reigning champions LASK. Hofleitner had the first shot for GAK after barely two minutes, and in the 18th minute, Pines deservedly put them ahead.
The GAK defender remained in the box after a corner and headed a Lichtenberger cross past Lustenau keeper Schierl, making it unsavable (18'). After a good half-hour, Hofleitner was sent through deep and was only denied from a tight angle by Schierl's foot save.
On the other hand, despite increasing possession, Lustenau only threatened with individual long-range shots. However, with the lead, GAK became increasingly passive.
Lustenau Strikes Back
After the break, the Vorarlberg side scored a surprising equalizer.
Kacuri was unstoppable in front of the box, even by two Graz players, and fired a shot that Stankovic got a hand to but couldn't save (51'). GAK subsequently struggled to get back on the offensive.
Only after a period of little action did another corner lead to the Graz side regaining the lead. Michorl delivered the set-piece into the middle, Hofleitner somewhat forcefully got the better of Maak and headed it in – 2-1 after 66 minutes.
Lustenau never recovered from this setback until the final whistle and had to leave the three points in Graz.
