No Penalty! Hinterseer furious: "I'm looking forward to the statement"

Unrewarded away at Rapid despite a good performance, at least SCR Altach's first home game of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga 2026/27 ended ideally - with a 3:1 victory over WSG Tirol (Match report>>>).

And that, even though the guests took the lead after 13 minutes through Husein Balic – scoring for the first time since his return to Austria – and comeback qualities had not been the Vorarlbergers' great strength recently.

"Nothing is more validating than a victory. It was important for us today. We already showed a good performance against Rapid. With this win and advancing in the Cup, one can speak of a successful start to the season," Ognjen Zaric happily stated on "Sky".

And he emphasized, as he did after the defeat in Vienna, the manner of play as crucial: "A victory is always nice and feels good. But I also believe that the way we played football was good."

Greil feels pressure

Patrick Greil also seems to be back in good form: After scoring the equalizer himself, he also forced the final goal, which was counted as an own goal.

"I did a lot in the summer and I'm glad that I've already been rewarded today. There was a bit of pressure after last season," the midfielder admitted.

"That's an absolute scandal"

The match could have taken a different turn. When Lukas Hinterseer went down in the 69th minute, referee Sebastian Gishamer awarded a penalty.

However, he was called to the screen by the VAR and subsequently reversed the penalty decision. A difficult situation, as there was no clear and obvious error (in the initial award).

"For me, it's a clear penalty. I turn, he holds me, I lose my footing. It has to be a clear and obvious error (to be overturned), otherwise you don't take it back. That is an absolute scandal. It was a wrong decision," fumed Hinterseer.

And he already knew: "On Monday, there will be a statement, and I'm already looking forward to it."

But it shouldn't be an excuse: "As a team, we allowed too many chances. We need to continue defending passionately."

A point with improved defending?

His coach also agreed, but in typical Philipp Semlic fashion, he by no means wanted to solely rely on that: "If the hand is on Luki Hinterseer's hip, it's an obstruction during the shot on goal - and that's a penalty. For me, it's a clear and obvious error (to overturn the penalty), which is a shame for me."

Otherwise, he saw a balanced match, "in which the key moments we needed did not go our way. The first two goals were defensible. I believe that something still would have been possible here."
