VAR Decision Takes Center Stage in Altach Victory

In the second round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, SCR Altach secures a 3:1 victory against WSG Tirol.

The match starts turbulently, with new signing Husein Balic already dancing through the Vorarlberg defense in the second minute and shooting just past the far post.

In the 13th minute, Balic is once again in the spotlight. After a throw-in from Drew Murray, Marco Boras heads the ball into the center, where Balic lurks and pokes the ball past Stojanovic into the net.

The hosts equalize just six minutes later. Diawara secures the ball at the halfway line and then sends Niklas Niehoff deep. The 21-year-old German sees Patrick Greil making a run and sets up the goal scorer, who nets the 1:1.

Just before halftime, WSG still has a top chance. After a corner kick, Michael Olakigbe outruns everyone, but the last touch is untidy, and Altach goalkeeper Stojanovic can snatch the ball from the Nigerian's foot.

VAR Decision Becomes Decisive

In the 56th minute, Niklas Niehoff dances past the Tyrolean defense and looks for a shot. Initially, Hamzic can still parry the ball, but subsequently, the Vorarlbergers regain possession, and Benjamin Böckle sets up Yann Massombo, who finishes clinically into the near post.

In the 69th minute, Lukas Hinterseer goes down after contact with Benedikt Zech. Referee Sebastian Gishamer points to the spot, awarding a penalty. But the VAR calls the official to the screen, and after reviewing the images, Gishamer retracts his decision – not without controversy.

In the 86th minute, Patrick Greil secures the victory for Altach. After a cross from Massombo, Hristic lays it off for Greil. His shot is deflected by David Kubatta, making it unstoppable.
