Will Romano Schmid play in the Italian Serie A next season?

According to Saturday's reports, the 26-year-old is moving to newly-promoted Frosinone Calcio alongside ÖFB teammate Florian Grillitsch (read more here >>>).

Clemens Fritz, sporting director at Schmid's club SV Werder Bremen, has now commented on the rumours: "I can confirm that talks are currently underway," said the former Werder professional.

"There is interest in him, but I will not comment on names or clubs. There are matters to discuss. We have to wait and see how things develop in the coming days," said the 45-year-old.

Italian Journalist Reports "Done Deal"

According to "BILD" information, an agreement on a transfer has already been reached between Bremen and Frosinone. The medical check is expected to take place by Monday at the latest.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has already written on X about a "Done Deal". A transfer fee of eight million Euros is reportedly involved. According to "BILD", the sum could rise to ten million Euros through bonus payments.

Schmid is expected to sign a contract in Italy until 2030 and earn 3.5 million Euros per year.

Schmid Misses Werder Friendly

Schmid, who has been under contract in Bremen since 2019, was not part of the squad for Werder's friendly against Paderborn on Saturday.

According to club statements, the Austrian international was absent due to load management. His Werder contract expires next year.

Newly-promoted Frosinone has seen a US investor join this summer. The new financier is also involved with Premier League club Ipswich Town.
