On Tuesday afternoon, an extraordinary rumor from the lower leagues made the rounds on social media.

According to the Instagram account "unterhausfabrizio", USV Oed/Zeillern from Lower Austria has the former Czech international Jakub Jankto on their radar.

The deal with the 30-year-old is reportedly already finalized. LAOLA1 inquired with the club from the 2. Landesliga West (fifth-highest league).

The Current Situation

"He is a topic for us," said sporting director Leopold Mühlböck. However, nothing is finalized yet, according to both Mühlböck and chairman Christian Spindler. "It would be great, of course," Spindler said.

Contact with Jankto came about through a former Oed/Zeillern player from the Czech Republic.

Jankto has also already been to the sports facility in Oed, which is near Amstetten, and inspected the local conditions. The 45-time Czech international is considering returning to the pitch as a player.

Jankto ended his professional career in August 2025 at the age of 29. At the time, he cited the reasons for this step in an Instagram statement: Firstly, he had suffered a serious ankle injury, which is why he did not play a single game for Cagliari in Serie A during the 2024/25 season. Secondly – according to Jankto, the main reason – he wanted to spend more time with his son in Prague.

According to sporting director Mühlböck, the ankle injury is no longer an issue. "He is completely fit." However, the club can only register him for match operations in December anyway.

Market Value of 15 Million Euros

Jankto would bring plenty of professional experience to the Lower Austrian lower leagues. The midfielder was trained in the youth ranks of Slavia Prague and moved to Italy to Udinese Calcio while still in the youth sector.

The left-footed player made a total of 173 appearances in Serie A, playing most of his career matches for Sampdoria. At one point, he had a market value of 15 million Euros.

Jankto also played in Spain for Getafe CF and became Czech champion with Sparta Prague in 2023 as a loaned player.

In February 2023, Jankto publicly came out as homosexual. He was married to designer Marketa Ottomanska until 2021. She publicly supported Jankto after his coming out. Their shared son was born in 2019.
