Former Salzburg coach Tonda Eckert could soon take the next step in his career.

The 33-year-old, who worked as an assistant coach in the youth department of FC Red Bull Salzburg ten years ago, is said to have attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs. This comes from a "Sky" report. Clubs from the Italian Serie A are also said to have the German on their radar.

Currently Working in Southampton

Eckert is currently working as head coach for English second-division club FC Southampton, with his contract there running until summer 2027. Despite the growing interest, a departure is by no means a foregone conclusion. According to "Sky", both the club and the coach can currently well imagine an extension.

The Saints' officials have already publicly expressed this desire, valuing their coach's qualities and wanting to continue the successful development together. However, promotion to the Premier League would probably be necessary for that.

Eckert and the "Saints" already caused a stir both on and off the pitch last season.

"Spy-Gate" Affair Caused a Stir

On the sporting side, the club had qualified for the playoff final for promotion to the Premier League, but was excluded from the final match due to the "Spy-Gate" affair (More Info>>>). In addition, four points were deducted from the team for the 2026/27 Championship season.

None of this has harmed the 33-year-old's reputation. This season too, Southampton is performing successfully despite the points deduction and is once again in the promotion race as the current sixth-placed team in the Championship.
