"Club is a mess" - Legend slams Manchester United
The former "Red Devils" defender sharply criticizes his former club and sees Michael Carrick on a losing wicket.
The pressure is mounting on Michael Carrick at Manchester United!
In the eighth round of the English Premier League, the "Red Devils" suffered a painful 0-3 defeat at home against AFC Bournemouth. To the match report >>>
Pressure mounts
The record champions are now winless in eight competitive matches. Their last victory was a 4-0 win in the UEFA Champions League against Sabah FK in mid-September. The last league win dates back even further, to August 30, when they beat promoted side Ipswich 5-2.
With seven points from eight games, the traditional club is only in 16th place, two points above the bottom of the table. It's hardly surprising, then, that head coach Carrick is increasingly under pressure.
Neville lashes out
Club legend Gary Neville slammed his former club after the defeat against Bournemouth: "It's going to be ridiculously difficult for Michael Carrick to remain Manchester United manager. That's the problem the club is struggling with. It's horrible to have to say that."
And Neville added: "I already felt last season that the club should have got the best possible manager and should not have given the job to Michael Carrick. Because I felt it could happen so quickly, but it has gone very, very wrong very quickly and the club is a mess."
Possible Succession Candidates
What happens next with Carrick after the renewed defeat is currently open. However, rumors about his dismissal have been circulating for days.
English media recently mentioned former DFB national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Brighton's successful coach Fabian Hürzeler, and Antonio Conte as potential candidates.
