Comical Own Goal, Sending Off: Tottenham Beats Chelsea Late
The "Spurs" defeat the "Blues" thanks to a strong finish. In the end, a comical own goal and a sending off made the difference.
Second win of the season for Tottenham!
Roberto De Zerbi's team defeated FC Chelsea 2-0 away in the London derby.
With their second consecutive victory, the "Spurs" also climb out of the bottom of the table and are now twelfth. Chelsea, however, misses the chance to catch up with the top.
The first big chance fell to the Blues. Via Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers, the ball reached Cole Palmer, who curled it towards the left corner, but Antonin Kinsky was there and made a strong save.
But the Spurs also had a big chance in the first half, which Omar Marmoush missed, being thwarted by Mike Penders (28'). Overall, the Spurs were the slightly better team.
Comical Own Goal
After the half-time break, it took a long time until there was another clear chance. A volley shot from Neto was still the most dangerous, but caused no problems for Spurs keeper Kinsky (61').
Late in the game, the Spurs managed the lucky punch: A corner kick from Mateus Fernandes slipped through several players and landed with Jan Paul van Hecke. Chelsea keeper Penders wanted to clear the ball, but unfortunately miskicked it and diverted it into his own net. What a comical own goal (77').
Sending Off and Outcome
After that, things got even worse for Chelsea. Cole Palmer was late in his challenge against Conor Gallagher and was sent off with a second yellow card (80').
The visitors ruthlessly exploited their numerical advantage and Mathys Tel secured the 2-0 final score (87').
