Super Sub Delivers Late for Dortmund Against Hütter's Team
After two league draws, BVB celebrates another victory and provisionally takes the league lead. Frankfurt narrowly misses out.
On the 7th matchday of the German Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund celebrates a 1-0 home victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Maximilian Beier scores the decisive goal in the closing stages. BVB thus provisionally takes the league lead.
Even First Half
Dortmund starts the match better and Serhou Guirassy gets two good early chances. However, Frankfurt's goalkeeper Noah Atubolu is on hand for the striker's shots in the 14th and 16th minutes.
Eintracht, managed by Adi Hütter, also consistently finds space in attack and becomes particularly dangerous through Jonathan Burkardt. However, Younes Ebnoutalib has the biggest chance to take the lead, but his central shot is saved by Gregor Kobel (33').
Guirassy Hits the Bar
After the break, Dortmund increases the pressure and comes very close to taking the lead immediately after the restart. After a corner from Joey Veerman, Guirassy rises high, but only heads his effort against the crossbar (52').
During this phase, BVB has significantly more shots and pushes for the opening goal. However, Frankfurt defends successfully for a long time and keeps the game open.
Beier Delivers for BVB
In the 80th minute, the decisive goal finally falls in favor of the hosts. Jobe Bellingham assists the substituted Maximilian Beier, who finishes precisely into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area and thus gives Dortmund the lead.
Hütter subsequently reacts with attacking substitutions to still salvage a point. However, the Dortmunders do not relinquish their narrow lead and celebrate an important home victory.
Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer is in BVB's starting eleven and is replaced in the 68th minute by fellow Austrian international Carney Chukwuemeka.
Dortmund now has 17 points and provisionally takes the league lead. However, FC Bayern München can still overtake them on Sunday. Eintracht Frankfurt remains in 13th place with eight points.
