Bayern Munich's Honorary President Uli Hoeneß is causing a stir with a statement regarding Lennart Karl. In an interview with "Welt am Sonntag," he criticized the extravagant lifestyle of the 18-year-old German midfielder.

"I intend to have a serious talk with him. He is far from being a superstar; young players need humility," said the 74-year-old.

The concern is that after his rapid ascent last season, the praise might have gone to Karl's head. "Young players also need pressure. I don't know if it does Lennart Karl any good if one only takes him under one's wing."

After all, the undoubtedly great talent still has a long way to go to achieve an absolute breakthrough. "Comparisons with Olise are obviously not good for him; there are still worlds between them," Hoeneß is convinced.

Eberl defends Karl

This season isn't going so well for the Bayern teenager; in nine competitive matches, he has only played 267 minutes, although he has already recorded one goal and one assist.

Karl was recently publicly defended by sporting director Max Eberl, who stated that ups and downs are completely normal for such a young player.

He will certainly reach his level again, said Eberl about the midfielder, who was part of the German national team squad at the World Cup but had to leave due to injury before the first match.
