Brace! Jakupovic Nets First Goals for New Club
The Austrian international scores a brace in the home win against Maritimo Funchal and celebrates his goal-scoring debut in Portugal.
Arnel Jakupovic has arrived at Vitoria Guimaraes!
The 28-year-old striker netted his first two goals for the Portuguese top-flight club in the 5-0 home win against Maritimo Funchal.
First Goals in Fifth Competitive Appearance
Jakupovic gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. In the 76th minute, the attacker added his second goal, making it 4-0 temporarily. Three minutes later, the Austrian was substituted.
The striker had moved from Croatian club Osijek to Portugal for around 600,000 euros at the beginning of September. In his fifth competitive match for Vitoria Guimaraes, he now found the net for the first time – with a brace.
For Vitoria Guimaraes, the victory is a real relief. After five winless league matches in a row, they now celebrate only their second season win in the ninth game, thanks to Jakupovic.
Still Awaiting ÖFB Debut
In September 2024, Jakupovic was called up to the squad of the Austrian national team for the first time by ÖFB head coach Ralf Rangnick.
However, he did not make an appearance then. A debut for the senior national team is still pending for the 28-year-old.
