Odd: Lower-League Club Had to Cancel Match Due to Wild Boars
The uninvited guests made SC Unterpullendorf's pitch unplayable.
SC Unterpullendorf was actually scheduled to host SV Loipersbach at home on Sunday.
However, the lower-league club from Burgenland had to cancel its home game. The bizarre reason: wild boars had rendered the pitch unplayable.
"A local resident alerted us that someone had supposedly dug up the pitch. On closer inspection, it was clear that it must have been wild boars," said Chairman Nico Fercsak to the "Kronen Zeitung".
In a photo shared by the club on Facebook, small mounds of earth can be seen on the pitch. The wild boars were likely searching for food.
Repeat Offenders
According to the "Krone", the wild boars are believed to have caused four-figure costs. The turf has since been repaired with a cultivator.
Wild boars are said to have wreaked havoc on the pitch two years ago as well. At that time, however, SC Unterpullendorf was on winter break.
To keep the uninvited guests away in the future, an electric game fence was erected at the access point to the forest, according to the "Krone".
