Cup Match at RW Essen: Guest Entrance for Leipzig Fans Concreted Shut

German third-division side Rot-Weiss Essen hosts Bundesliga club RB Leipzig today, Tuesday (6 PM), in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.

For RWE employees, matchday preparations did not go smoothly. Overnight, unknown individuals apparently concreted shut the access to the guest section at the Stadion an der Hafenstraße. The "WAZ" reports this.

Two fence gates are believed to have been fused together by the concrete, making it impossible to open the gate.

An employee of the city of Essen and staff from third-division side Rot-Weiss Essen worked to make the guest section accessible again. According to the "WAZ", the gate could be reopened at 10 AM.

Notes with the messages "Anti RB" and "Bulls must stay outside today" were attached to the gate. This is evident from a video circulating on social media. The action was likely carried out by RWE supporters.

Rot-Weiss Essen and RB Leipzig already met in the first round of the DFB-Pokal in 2024. Back then, the Red Bulls secured an away 4:1 victory.

Today, Tuesday, the home club expects 500 away fans from Leipzig in Essen. A large portion of the 2,500 available guest tickets were not claimed, which is why another sector will be opened for Essen fans.
