Goal Fest: Barca Dominantly Capitalizes on Real's Slip-Up

FC Barcelona's perfect start to La Liga continues.

On Sunday, the Catalans celebrated an impressive 5-0 away victory at FC Valencia, thereby extending their league lead. At the same time, Hansi Flick's team capitalized on Real Madrid's slip-up, who lost 0-1 to Real Betis on Friday.

Barcelona got off to a dream start in Valencia. Rodri, making his first start since his transfer, initiated the first attack. This was followed by a magnificent co-production from Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal.

Lopez deftly chipped the ball over the defense, Yamal made a run and, with the outside of his foot, lobbed the ball directly out of the air over Valencia keeper Stole Dimitrievski and into the net (6').

Just one minute later, Yamal celebrated again. Following an assist from Fermin Lopez, the 19-year-old scored again, but he was marginally offside in the build-up. The goal was therefore disallowed.

Fermin Lopez Adds Another

Subsequently, Valencia found their way into the game better and created some dangerous opportunities. In the 21st minute, Pau Cubarsi had to make a last-ditch clearance in front of the ready-to-shoot Arnaut Danjuma.

However, right in the middle of the hosts' best phase, Barcelona struck again. Anthony Gordon laid the ball back in the 22nd minute, where Fermin Lopez stood completely free and finished with a powerful shot into the bottom left corner.

Yamal then had two chances for a third goal. First, he failed to beat Dimitrievski (24'), then he shot just wide (36'). On the other side, Barca goalkeeper Joan Garcia also had to make a save against Danjuma (31').

The fact that it was only 0-2 at halftime was quite flattering from the hosts' perspective. Shortly before the break, Dimitrievski just managed to push a shot from Fermin Lopez onto the post (39').

Second Half Dominance

After the restart, Barcelona finally sealed the deal. The outstanding Fermin Lopez, directly involved in the first three goals, assisted Raphinha, who tapped in for 3-0 in the 50th minute.

Subsequently, the Catalans created numerous other opportunities. Rodri (55'), Gordon (57'), and Lopez (65') all missed great chances for a fourth goal.

In the final phase, it became even more convincing for Valencia. Especially the substitute Dani Olmo brought a lot of momentum and assisted both Pedri's 4-0 (79') and Yamal's 5-0 (84').

Barcelona thus stands at twelve points after four matchdays and leads the table ahead of Real Madrid and Real Betis (nine points each).

For Valencia, however, the situation is significantly less pleasing. The "Bats" still have only one point and take over the bottom spot in La Liga after the clear defeat against Barcelona.
