Next Goal! Adewumi Fires Hertha to the Top of the Table

Oluwaseun Adewumi is increasingly becoming Hertha BSC's designated super-sub.

The 21-year-old Austrian player scored for the third consecutive time as a substitute in the 2-1 home victory against 1. FC Magdeburg, securing the decisive goal.

After four matchdays, Hertha remains the only undefeated team in the 2. Bundesliga, leading the table with twelve points.

Adewumi Shines as Super-Sub

The Berliners took the lead in the tenth minute. Captain Josip Brekalo perfectly finished a transition play, scoring 1-0 via the inside of the post.

Magdeburg equalized in the 31st minute through Falko Michel. At halftime, Hertha coach Stefan Leitl brought Adewumi into the game – and the Austrian needed less than two minutes for his next goal.

After winning possession, the Berliners transitioned lightning-fast. Jon Thorsteinsson delivered the ball to the far post, where Adewumi arrived unmarked and effortlessly slotted it in for the renewed lead (47th).

This means the Austrian youngster has now scored as a substitute in his third consecutive game. Adewumi had already found success after coming on in the 4-1 win against Heidenheim on matchday two and the 5-3 victory against Braunschweig last week.

Adewumi Forces Red Card

Magdeburg seemingly managed to equalize again in the 55th minute, but Moritz-Broni Kwarteng's goal was disallowed for offside.

Things then became turbulent: Hertha's Paul Seguin received a second yellow card for a foul (62nd). Shortly after, Magdeburg also had a player sent off. Tobias Müller was also shown a second yellow card (73rd) for a foul on Adewumi, having already brought down the lively Austrian youngster in the 50th minute and received his first booking.

Hertha then held on to their narrow lead. Adewumi thus became the match-winner once again.

Magdeburg remains on six points and is seventh.

Honsak Celebrates with Heidenheim

An Austrian player also has reason to celebrate three points at 1. FC Heidenheim. Mathias Honsak's team secured a 1-0 victory against Greuther Fürth.

Budu Zivzivadze scored the decisive goal as early as the twelfth minute. Honsak was on the pitch until the 73rd minute.

For Heidenheim, it's their third win in the fourth league game. With nine points, the club is in third place. Fürth is twelfth with four points.

Entrup and Braunschweig Lose Again

VfL Osnabrück celebrated a 3-1 home victory against Lars Kornetka's Eintracht Braunschweig.

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (52nd), Bjarke Jacobsen (76th), and Robin Meißner (80th) put the hosts 3-0 up. Yann Sturm's goal for Braunschweig in the 88th minute was merely a consolation.

Austrian player Maximilian Entrup played for the visitors until the 73rd minute, while Damjan Kovacevic remained on the bench for the entire match.

Osnabrück now has six points and is eighth. Braunschweig is in 14th place with three points.
