SV Werder Bremen surprisingly defeated RB Leipzig 3-0 on the second matchday of the German Bundesliga.

For the hosts, Austrian international Marco Grüll set up the 2-0 and scored the third goal himself, while Marco Friedl and Nicolas Seiwald for the "Red Bulls" both played the full 90 minutes.

The match started perfectly for SVW: After an early possession win, Chuki set up Werder returnee Dinkci, who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. Otherwise, captain Friedl and his teammates allowed little. The teams went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Returnee Füllkrug with a dream home debut

Even after the break, Leipzig didn't pose a real threat. And then suddenly, in the 68th minute, the net rippled at the other end. Grüll dribbled into the center and found Füllkrug with a cross. After Dinkci, the second returnee also scored in his first Bundesliga home game. "Lücke" headed in unchallenged.

Ten minutes before the end, Grüll then also sealed the victory: After a scramble, the attacking player slotted the ball from 15 meters into the bottom left corner.

Baku's goal to make it 1-3 was merely a consolation goal (90.+5).
