First defeat for Mourinho! Real Madrid loses at Betis
An Irishman scores the winning goal for the hosts from Sevilla. For the "Royals", a new signing almost becomes the great hero, but his wonder goal doesn't count.
Real Madrid suffers their first defeat of the season.
On the fourth matchday of LaLiga, the "Blancos" lose 0-1 to Real Betis. Troy Parrott scores the decisive goal for the hosts, who initially didn't break much of a sweat.
Vinicius Junior (18') had the first good chance with his shot hitting the post. But Betis also created opportunities. Only at the end of the first half did Real push for the lead. Mbappé's shot (42') was blocked by Bartra, and Valles denied a Bellingham header (45').
A Wild Closing Phase
The pressure from the "Royals" subsided again after the break – a mistake Real Betis punished in the 81st minute. After a corner, Parrott tapped in a rebound from a Deossa header for a surprising lead.
The conceded goal woke Real up. Mourinho's squad pressed again. A deflected Mbappé cross hit the crossbar, before substitute Espi scored a supposed wonder goal to equalize. He connected with an overhead kick to make it 1-1, but there was an offside in the build-up. After a VAR check, the goal was disallowed.
Mbappé Misses from the Spot
Superstar Mbappé had a huge chance to make it 1-1 four minutes later. In the 90+3rd minute, Real was awarded a penalty. However, the Frenchman failed to beat goalkeeper Valles.
The VAR also intervened after this incident, but there was no retake – and in the end, it remained 1-0 for Real Betis.
