Official: This is FC Barcelona's new captain
Hansi Flick has officially appointed the Brazilian as the Catalans' new first captain. A Spaniard takes on the role of vice-captain.
Raphinha is officially FC Barcelona's new captain.
As reported by Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", coach Hansi Flick has appointed the 29-year-old Brazilian as the first captain of the Catalans.
The position was vacant after Ronald Araujo's departure to FC Liverpool. Raphinha, however, is very familiar with the task: In the past two seasons, he already wore the captain's armband 28 times, as Araujo repeatedly missed games due to injury.
Pedri New Vice-Captain
In the election for the new captain, both Flick and the players of the Barcelona squad had cast their votes.
Following Raphinha is Pedri as the new vice-captain. Frenkie de Jong, Eric Garcia, and the just 19-year-old Lamine Yamal were appointed as further substitute captains.
For Raphinha, the appointment now signifies the definitive step to becoming the first captain. In recent years, he had already repeatedly proven that he can lead on the pitch as a leader.
