"Congratulations to Betis. They won the lottery tonight," Mourinho said after the match, when addressed by the media.
He couldn't find much fault with his team. "Sometimes you lose, and you can't explain why. I really don't know why we lost. We played so well. Very well," explained the Portuguese.
Even with a draw, Mourinho would have been disappointed
His team created numerous chances and always fought. "The players' attitude was fantastic, and we did everything to win," Mourinho continued.
"Even if we had drawn today, we would have been disappointed," the star coach expressed his disappointment.
"You'd think they'd need an ambulance"
For Mourinho himself, the evening ended with a yellow card in his pocket. In the 55th minute, Fran Garcia was fouled by Ibrahima Konate on the sidelines, whereupon Mourinho immediately stormed towards the pitch and was booked with a yellow card by referee Hernandez.
"My yellow card was because I jumped while a Betis player pretended to be dead," Mourinho fumed.
"The Betis players exaggerated every foul so much that you'd think they'd need an ambulance because of their reactions," the Real Madrid coach continued to grumble.
