RB Leipzig Interested in German World Cup Player
The Saxons would make an exception to their transfer policy for the 29-year-old. He has reportedly been on their wishlist for some time.
Will RB Leipzig sign a German international?
According to a report by "Sport Bild", the Saxons are said to have great interest in Nadiem Amiri from FSV Mainz 05. The 29-year-old has reportedly been on the "Red Bulls'" wishlist for some time and was one of the few bright spots in the DFB team at the 2026 World Cup.
In his few minutes of play, Amiri hinted at his skill. For example, he set up a goal during Deniz Undav's equalizer in the 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast.
Leipzig Would Make an Exception for Amiri
However, the 29-year-old does not actually fit the Saxons' recruitment profile. For years, Leipzig has consistently relied on young, developable players. The last new signing over 25 was Ridle Baku, who moved to Cottaweg in early 2025 at the age of 26.
Nevertheless, Leipzig would apparently be willing to make an exception for Amiri. The midfielder is coming off a strong season with FSV Mainz 05, where he impressed as a playmaker with 17 goal involvements (13 goals, four assists).
Versatility and Experience
His versatility and experience also speak for him: Amiri can play several positions in midfield, brings the experience of 282 Bundesliga games, and could take on a leadership role in an otherwise very young team.
Since Amiri is under contract in Mainz until 2028 and does not have a release clause, a transfer fee would be due. Both clubs would have to negotiate the transfer terms freely.
Whether Mainz will let their key player go is questionable and would likely only happen with a suitable offer. His market value is estimated at 17 million euros according to "transfermarkt.at".
