World Cup Star Puts Pressure: "I Assume I Will Leave RB Leipzig"
The winger has been outstanding at the World Cup so far. Now he also wants to take the next step at club level.
Yan Diomande wants to leave RB Leipzig in the summer.
The 19-year-old forward is being linked with a move to two-time Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain, and is reportedly already in agreement with the French club (More info>>>). Only his current employer is said to be blocking a departure at the moment.
Diomande made it clear that he cannot imagine a future in Leipzig ahead of Ivory Coast's World Cup round of 16 match against Norway.
"I naturally assume that I will leave the club. My agent is taking care of the rest," the Ivorian is quoted by "kicker".
"He will remain a Leipzig player"
Leipzig, however, does not want to let Diomande go and intends to keep the 19-year-old. Last season, the winger scored 13 goals and provided ten assists in 36 competitive matches.
"We know what we have in him. Of course, if Yan continues like this, the time will come when we will enable him to take the next step – but not this year. He will remain a Leipzig player," RB CEO Marcel Schäfer recently stated in an interview with "Bild", putting a stop to a transfer for now.
Contract until 2030
Diomande still has a contract at Cottaweg until 2030 – without a release clause. Accordingly, RB Leipzig holds the stronger hand in potential negotiations.
The Ivorian moved to Leipzig in the summer of 2025 from Spanish second-division club CD Leganes, where he immediately made a significant impact in his first Bundesliga season. However, whether he will remain in Saxony if PSG gets serious remains to be seen.
A transfer fee of significantly more than 100 million euros is being discussed. This would make Diomande the record departure for the Red Bulls.
