Last summer, Philipp Ziereis rejected a contract extension offer from LASK to return to his homeland.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth secured the services of the central defender, but he couldn't fully live up to the desired leadership role.

In the new season, he was actually supposed to make another attempt to establish himself as the defensive leader, but now everything could turn out very differently.

Exit a year before contract expiry

As reported by the "Nürnberger Nachrichten", the 33-year-old is on the verge of a move to Melbourne Victory in the Australian A-League.

The central defender reportedly approached the officials of the German second-division club with the wish to leave the club for Australia. His contract in Fürth would have run until 2027.

For LASK, the Bavarian-born player made a total of 111 competitive appearances, captaining the team onto the pitch 33 times.
