GAK signs ex-Austria Vienna player from Italy
The Red Jackets seal their next deal. The 20-year-old arrives from a Serie A club.
GAK strengthens its defense with Petar Markovic.
The 20-year-old central defender joins the Red Jackets from Serie A club FC Bologna and signs a contract until summer 2029.
Markovic was developed at Wiener Austria and made the move to Italy in summer 2024. At Bologna, he played in the youth ranks and made a total of 35 appearances in Primavera 1, Italy's highest youth league.
Markovic also gained international experience in the UEFA Youth League. The Vienna native can also boast appearances for Austria's youth national teams.
"We convinced him of our vision"
"With Petar, we were able to convince a great young talent of our vision and sign him permanently from Bologna for the next three years," says Sporting Director Tino Wawra.
"At 1.94m, Petar brings height and heading ability, but he's also very good with the ball at his feet. Even though he comes in as a challenger behind our established central defenders, I believe he will make significant developmental progress very quickly."
Markovic says: "I am very happy to have signed long-term with such a traditional club in the Bundesliga. For me, this is the perfect step in my development. I want to establish myself here and break into professional football."
