Morten Hjulmand is on the verge of the next big step in his career.
According to Spanish newspaper "Marca", the transfer of the Danish midfielder from Sporting Lisbon to Atlético Madrid is in its final stages. The 27-year-old's agents are currently in Madrid to clarify the final details.
The Rojiblancos have already reached an agreement with the player's side last week, according to a report by Portuguese sports newspaper "O Jogo". The deal is expected to be finalised by the start of pre-season training on July 13.
Sporting Insists on a Higher Fixed Fee
The transfer fee remains a sticking point at present. Atlético Madrid reportedly had an offer of 35 million euros including bonuses rejected, with Sporting Lisbon insisting on a higher fixed amount. The Portuguese vice-champions' pain threshold for their captain is said to be 40 million euros.
Hjulmand made his professional debut in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. Between 2018 and 2021, he played 74 competitive matches for Admira Wacker, before making the jump to Sporting Lisbon via Lecce.
