ÖFB national team goalkeeper Alexander Schlager is set to join SV Werder Bremen, according to the "Salzburger Nachrichten".

The 30-year-old FC Red Bull Salzburg keeper attracted attention with strong performances at the World Cup.

According to the "SN", teams from Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Cyprus, and Germany recently expressed interest in signing the Salzburg native.

Training Camp in Zillertal

A fundamental agreement with Werder Bremen, the club of ÖFB legionnaires Marco Friedl, Romano Schmid, and Marco Grüll, is reportedly in place. The medical check is still pending.

Schlager could already be present at Werder's first training session on Sunday. From July 20th to 26th, the North Germans will prepare for the new season at a training camp in Zell am Ziller.

Schlager without a title

In Bremen, the number one shirt is currently unassigned after Mio Backhaus's departure to SC Freiburg. However, the Bremen side already has an ambitious goalkeeper in their ranks with the Estonian Karl Hein, who was trained at Arsenal.

Schlager moved from LASK to FC Red Bull Salzburg in 2023. In the last three years, he was the first-choice keeper, but he was unable to celebrate a single title.

At the "Bulls" (Red Bull Salzburg), young Christian Zawieschitzky (19) could take over from Schlager in goal.
