Christoph Freund's future at FC Bayern Munich could be clarified soon.

Following the contract extensions of CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Sporting Director Max Eberl, the two Bayern bosses have now also commented on the situation surrounding the Austrian sporting director.

And the signals are clear: Freund is set to remain in Munich beyond the end of the season.

Dreesen: "Hopeful"

"We are speaking with Christoph," Dreesen explained after the 5-0 victory against Bodö/Glimt on the opening day of the Champions League (match report >>>).

The CEO expressed confidence that the personnel matter, which has been open for months, can be resolved soon.

"I am hopeful that we will resolve the outstanding issue promptly," Dreesen added.

Thus, following the already extended contracts of Dreesen and Eberl, it now appears to be Freund's turn.

Eberl: "He has to sign"

Eberl also made no secret after the emphatic victory that he expects the Salzburg native to stay.

"I hope it will happen. He has to sign," the sporting director said about Freund. Eberl then added: "Everything will be fine."

The statements from the two Bayern bosses thus indicate that talks with Freund are gaining momentum.

The 49-year-old has been under contract as Sporting Director with the German record champions since September 2023. His current contract expires at the end of the season.

It had already been reported on Wednesday that there is a clear majority within the club for an extension. However, Freund himself recently stressed that he was "in no hurry."
