Musiala is back: More than just an opener for Bayern
The 23-year-old, whose health had caused concern before the start of the season, promptly made his mark on the first matchday of the Champions League with an important goal.
"Jamal has earned this appearance," said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany in an interview with "DAZN" before the Champions League opener against Bodø/Glimt.
"If everything goes well today and he shows what he has shown in training, then it will be fun for the fans," said the Belgian.
And the fans had their fun.
Musiala, the Opener
Attacking player Jamal Musiala returned to Bayern's starting eleven in their 5-0 victory against the Norwegians and put the Munich side on the winning track with his goal shortly after the break (47'). "I am very happy about my goal and about being back in the Champions League starting XI," Musiala told "DAZN" after the match.
Goals from Harry Kane (61'), Alphonso Davies (77') and Michael Olise (83', 90'+2) followed, sending FCB fans into raptures over a successful start to the UEFA Champions League.
The UEFA named Olise Player of the Match after his brace. But Musiala wrote the story of the day.
Great Concern After Collapses
During pre-season, the 23-year-old collapsed on the pitch during test matches within a few days. After the second incident in Heidenheim, the DFB team player publicly announced a "neurological dysfunction".
"I am receiving the best medical treatment in this regard and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my private circle are always by my side and support me on this journey. Importantly, there is no further health risk beyond this," Musiala wrote on Instagram at the time, in mid-August.
"I'm Slowly Getting Back Into My Rhythm"
At Bayern, he was then carefully reintroduced to full load. Last weekend, in the 0-0 draw against FC Schalke 04, he was already on the pitch for half an hour.
Against Bodø/Glimt, the attacking player left the field after just over an hour to applause – alongside Konrad Laimer.
"I'm slowly getting back into my rhythm. The team has supported me incredibly well, the coach, my teammates – they have been a great help. I want to perform and enjoy myself again step by step," Musiala said.
