Comeback Kid Musiala Scores! Bayern Wins CL Opener Against Bodö
In the first half, the underdog successfully keeps Bayern's offense in check. Shortly after the break, comeback kid Musiala sets the course for victory.
FC Bayern Munich kicks off the new UEFA Champions League season with a home victory over FK Bodö/Glimt.
After a goalless first half, Jamal Musiala (47'), returning to the starting XI, Harry Kane (61'), Alphonso Davies (77'), and Michael Olise (83', 90'+2) put the German record champions on the road to victory.
Konrad Laimer is in Bayern's starting lineup. FCB coach Vincent Kompany takes the Austrian national team player off the field in the 65th minute.
Bodö/Glimt Puts Up a Fight
After five minutes, Bayern first approaches the goal of the Norwegian vice-champions. However, neither Luis Diaz nor Jamal Musiala reach the cross from the half-space; the two rather hinder each other. Nevertheless, the cross becomes dangerous, but Bodö keeper Nikita Haikin gets his arm up in time and pushes the ball over the bar (5').
The underdog reached the round of 16 in the Champions League last year, troubling big clubs like Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, and Inter. And even the Munich side initially had their struggles with the Norwegians.
Joshua Kimmich's long-range shot hits the post (35'). Then Musiala, making his first start of the season after collapsing during pre-season, steps up. The 23-year-old gets into a shooting position with a good dribble, but his attempt is too central (40').
Bayern had arguably the best chance of the game just before halftime. Bodö goalkeeper Haikin barely saves Kimmich's shot right on the line. However, the keeper gets injured in the process, which is why the visitors bring on Julian Faye Lund for the second half.
Spectacular Bayern Goals and a Red Card for Bodö/Glimt
After the break, the game then unfolds exactly as Bayern wished.
Musiala effortlessly buries the ball into the far corner for the 1-0 lead (47'). Kane then initially puts the ball wide of the goal after a Laimer cross. In the 61st minute, he heads in a Michael Olise free-kick cross to make it 2-0.
Davies (77') and Olise (83') add two magnificent goals. The underdog finishes the game with only ten men, as Odin Luras Björtuft pulls the emergency brake on Olise and is sent off with a red card (88').
Olise seals the win with his goal for 5-0 in stoppage time (90'+2).
