Werder reports incident: Tribune collapses at Weserstadion
During renovation work, a section of the tribune was damaged and partially collapsed. No one was injured.
An incident occurred at the Weserstadion on Wednesday afternoon during construction work.
A section of the upper tier of the stands partially collapsed during ongoing modernization work, SV Werder Bremen announced.
The incident took place during renovation work in the VIP area. Window panes were originally supposed to be removed there. According to the club, a "load-bearing column was unintentionally damaged" in the process.
Subsequently, concrete supports are said to have broken, leading to a partial collapse of the tribune section.
Werder "Analyzing the Situation"
Block 53, which is located to the side of the Ostkurve in the direction of the Südgerade, is affected. The Ostkurve is considered the home of Werder Bremen's active fan scene.
According to the club, there is no danger to other sections of the tribune. Furthermore, no individuals were injured in the incident.
Those responsible are now working on assessing the damage and determining the next steps. "We are currently analyzing the situation and the damage incurred, and we hope to be able to repair the tribune as quickly as possible," Hans-Jörg Otto, Managing Director of Bremer Weserstadion GmbH, is quoted in a club statement.
Werder is scheduled to celebrate its season opener at home in the Weserstadion on August 15 with a friendly match against French club AJ Auxerre.
