Veteran Striker Extends Contract with Promoted Schalke 04

Veteran Edin Dzeko extends his contract with Schalke 04!

The club announced this on Monday. The 40-year-old will also play for the Royal Blues in the coming season, wearing the number 10.

Dzeko is said to have received a heavily performance-based contract, yet his salary is reportedly €900,000, with bonuses potentially reaching up to €1.3 million. Dzeko is thus one of the top earners at the Bundesliga promoted side.

"Edin has given Schalke 04 something special in his roughly four and a half months here so far," Youri Mulder, Director of Professional Football at Schalke 04, is quoted as saying. "He was a key player and a fan favourite, and through his personality on and off the pitch, he was always a role model. In discussions over the past few weeks, it became clear that Edin is still burning with passion. That's why we are convinced that he will also help us in the Bundesliga. Edin remains a Schalke player – I think that's a great thing."

Dzeko joined the club in the second half of last season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in eleven games. He was in action with Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup.

Dzeko has so far made 111 appearances in the German Bundesliga, scoring 66 goals and contributing 27 assists. He last played in the league in 2010/11, then with VfL Wolfsburg.
