Austrian international in S04 spotlight: Adamu scores, Ljubicic forced off
While one Austrian international scores in the friendly against Hessen Kassel, another has to leave the field injured.
Schalke 04's injury list is getting longer.
After Adrian Gantenbein was already injured in the last friendly against Fagiano Okayama, two more players have now been sidelined with injuries against Regionalliga side Hessen Kassel.
New signing Robin Gosens had to leave the field limping in the first half, and after about an hour, Austrian international Dejan Ljubicic also suffered an injury.
All-clear for Ljubicic
The midfielder had to be supported off the pitch by staff. According to Sky, it is believed to be a knee injury. An MRI is now expected to provide clarity on the extent of the injury. As "Bild" reports, Ljubicic is expected to return to training next week. The injury is likely not too serious.
Despite the two injuries, the Royal Blues won the friendly against the Regionalliga side: Miron Muslic's team won 5-0 at the sold-out Auestadion. Junior Adamu scored the interim 2-0 in the 40th minute.
Maximilian Wöber also came on in the 60th minute.
The other goals for the Royal Blues were scored by Kenan Karaman (36th), Adil Aouchiche (59th), Moussa Sylla (63rd) and Satoshi Tanaka (74th).
