Stay or Transfer? Marco Friedl Talks About Future
The Austrian has already played 229 competitive matches for Bremen. Will Friedl also play for the Green-Whites next season?
Marco Friedl has played for Werder Bremen since 2018, and since 2022, the ÖFB legionnaire has also worn the captain's armband for the Green-Whites.
However, the 28-year-old is repeatedly linked with a transfer.
Asked about his future, Friedl told the "Kicker": "I'm not saying I'd like to leave the club. That also shows how long I've been here."
First Minutes in Friendly Against Cottbus
While a transfer can "never" be ruled out, he is not actively looking for a new club: "I am not actively looking for a new club with my agent. Accordingly, I strongly assume that I will stay here."
In Saturday's friendly against Energie Cottbus, Friedl made his comeback after the World Cup tournament and had a brief appearance.

At the World Cup, the central defender made one appearance against Argentina.
Will Friedl Remain Captain?
Thus, Friedl is likely to remain captain of the team next season.
Coach Daniel Thioune praises his leader: "He handles the role in a very exemplary manner and takes command. He has been a good captain so far and would continue to be one."
However, there is a problem at the left central defender position. The 19-year-old talent Karim Coulibaly is also at home there. Last season, Friedl therefore often moved to the left-back position.
