Alexander Schlager Debuts in Bremen's Friendly Win
The ÖFB goalkeeper gets his first minutes in the second half against Energie Cottbus. His competitor Karl Hein makes a mistake in the first half.
SV Werder Bremen won the 120-minute friendly against Energie Cottbus 4-2.
Marco Grüll and Romano Schmid were in the starting eleven. New signing Alexander Schlager and captain Marco Friedl initially took a seat on the substitutes' bench.
However, the match started poorly for Bremen. Schlager's competitor Karl Hein made a costly misplaced pass in his own penalty area.
Tolcay Cigerci gratefully accepted the gift and gave Cottbus a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute.
Schmid Already in Form
Werder reacted promptly, took control, and turned the game around before the break. Musah and Mbangula scored to make it 2-1.
Romano Schmid, making his first appearance with his new number 10 jersey, set up both goals.
At the start of the second half, coach Daniel Thioune rotated all positions, bringing on Alexander Schlager for Karl Hein and Marco Friedl, among others. This gave the ÖFB keeper his first minutes in a Bremen jersey.
Schlager Concedes
In the second half (104th minute), Werder extended their lead. Erevbenagie scored to make it 3-1. Eight minutes later, however, Schlager conceded for the first time. Borgmann had too much space and converted to make it 3-2.
The leader would not let the minor setback go unanswered. Chuki scored to make it 4-2 almost at the final whistle.
And that was that. Bremen celebrated a friendly win against FC Energie Cottbus.
