Austrian International Klarer Experiences Turbulent Friendly Against Barcelona
Christoph Klarer is twice in the spotlight against FC Barcelona: The Austrian International causes a penalty, but also provides an assist.
Austrian International Christoph Klarer was on the field for the entire match on Friday as Birmingham City played out a 2-2 friendly against FC Barcelona.
In the 40th minute, the Championship club's captain involuntarily found himself in the spotlight.
The 26-year-old centre-back was late challenging Egyptian World Cup player Hamza Abdelkarim and caused a penalty. The fouled player stepped up himself and confidently converted to equalize at 1-1.
Priske had previously given Birmingham the lead in the 31st minute.
Klarer With an Assist
After the break, Barcelona turned the game around: It was again the just 18-year-old Abdelkarim who scored in the 60th minute to make it 2-1 for the Catalans.
However, Christoph Klarer was able to make amends for his error and played a decisive role in the equalizer. In the 67th minute, the Austrian headed on a free-kick, leaving Solis with a simple tap-in for 2-2.
This happened in front of Jude Bellingham, who watched his former club's match.
In a meaningless penalty shootout, Birmingham won 3-2.
