Austrian Set to Become Assistant Coach at Newcastle United

With Nottingham Forest under head coach Oliver Glasner, there is already a coaching staff in the Premier League blessed with several Austrians.

Now, another club is seemingly set to enjoy having an Austrian in their coaching team. According to Saudi Arabian journalist Khaled Al-Zahrani, Tyrolean Alexander Hauser will follow Matthias Jaissle from Al Ahli to Newcastle United.

Entire Coaching Staff Previously Worked in Austria

The two previously worked together at FC Red Bull Salzburg. Hauser followed Jaissle to Al Ahli in 2024, one year after Jaissle's appointment (2023). Together, the two managed to win the AFC Champions League twice.

Furthermore, a large part of the coaching staff will also be brought to St. James' Park. This includes assistant coach Florens Koch. The German had previously worked with Jaissle in the Salzburg U18 team and at feeder club FC Liefering, and subsequently at FC Red Bull Salzburg. He is only set to move to Saudi Arabia in January 2026.

Jaissle is also expected to bring Alexander Bade (goalkeeping coach), Steffen Konrad (video analyst), and Maximilian Fischer (match analyst) with him to Newcastle. Jaissle knows Fischer and Konrad from their time together in Salzburg.

Goalkeeper Coach with Austria Past

Bade also has a past in Austria. He worked as a sports coordinator at FK Austria Wien from 2019 to 2021, and was a goalkeeping coach under Peter Stöger in 2020/21.

The deal with Jaissle is widely reported as sealed. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the German will sign until 2030. A transfer fee of eleven million euros is reportedly involved. His presentation is expected on Saturday.
