Two Years Early: Mudryk's Doping Ban Lifted
Following changes to WADA's Technical Document, the Chelsea player would not have been banned today.
Mykhailo Mudryk's doping ban has been lifted.
As announced by the English Football Association (FA), this decision was made in agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). As part of the agreement, the Chelsea player accepted committing anti-doping rule violations and the ban.
During a doping control on October 22, 2024, a low concentration of Meldonium was detected in the winger, which led to his provisional suspension on December 4. This suspension would have lasted until 2028.
Mudryk Would Not Have Been Banned Under Current Regulations
However, since Mudryk's ban, changes have been made to WADA's Technical Document (TD2027MRL) – meaning that under current standards, the Ukrainian would not have been banned in the first place.
Consequently, the 25-year-old is "no longer suspended with immediate effect and can resume competitive activity," states the FA's press release.
"Chelsea FC acknowledges today's announcement from the Football Association confirming the resolution of the anti-doping proceedings involving Mykhailo Mudryk," Chelsea FC states on the club's website.
It further states: "Our focus is now on supporting Misha with his reintegration into the squad and helping him restart his career."
