Marcel Sabitzer (32) is entering his final contract year at BVB. In 2023, the Styrian was signed from FC Bayern München for 19 million euros. An extension of his contract has recently been virtually off the table.

However, an early departure could now become a real possibility. According to "Gazzetta dello Sport", FC Bologna is considering the Austrian. A deal is considered difficult but not impossible.

Dortmund's Last Chance for a Transfer Fee

For Dortmund, this could be an opportunity to sell the once costly acquisition for a transfer fee.

Bologna is considered an ambitious club in Italy, having reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League last season. The club narrowly missed out on a third consecutive season in Europe by finishing eighth.

Good Experience with ÖFB Players

With former Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco at the helm, a German-Italian is on the sidelines who appears to be looking for exactly Sabitzer's profile. Both were at Leipzig at different times.

Bologna has also had good experiences with Austrians recently. Stefan Posch and Marko Arnautovic made their mark in the Italians' jersey just a few years ago.
