The top-seeded Italian defeated world number 151 Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 7-6 (0), 6-3.

Even though Sinner won the match in three sets, he squandered an unusually high number of opportunities for his standards to turn the match in his favor. Out of a total of twelve break points, he could only convert four.

Serving was more comfortable for him. He recorded 15 aces by the end of the match.

Struff benefits from opponent's retirement

In the quarterfinals, Sinner will face German Jan-Lennard Struff. The 36-year-old advances to a Major quarterfinal for the first time in his career due to the retirement of his opponent Hubert Hurkacz, who was struggling with back pain. He fought his way back from a 2-0 set deficit.

The final score displayed was 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (2), 5-7 and 2-4 ret.
