Sadio Mane has retired from the Senegal national team.

The 34-year-old officially confirmed his retirement in a statement after the dramatic elimination from the 2026 World Cup against Belgium.

The former Salzburg star most recently captained the "Lions of Teranga" and played a total of 130 international matches for Senegal, contributing 54 goals. With the victory at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, he led Senegal to the greatest success in the country's football history.

The attacker, who was voted African Footballer of the Year in 2019 and 2022, thus bids farewell as one of the greatest players in Senegalese football history.

"Now the time has come to close a chapter. Due to my age and the demands of elite sports, I hereby officially announce my retirement from the national team," Mane explained his departure in a statement.

Currently Playing in Saudi Arabia

At club level, the attacking player, who played for clubs such as Liverpool FC and FC Bayern, will remain active in football.

The 34-year-old is currently under contract with the Saudi Arabian top club Al-Nassr and plays there alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
