As announced by the Belgian Football Association (KBVB), Debast's club Sporting Lissabon has not approved his participation against the Iberians.
Sporting Imposes Veto
The medical department of the Portuguese club does not yet consider the 22-year-old to be 100 percent after his thigh injury suffered at the end of May.
However, the KBVB assesses the situation differently. According to the association, the Belgians' assessment deviates from that of the club.
So far, the 22-year-old, who played an important role in the successful World Cup qualification and played six of eight matches for the full duration, has not yet featured in the 2026 World Cup.
Belgium coach Rudi Garcia had called him into the World Cup squad despite the injury, and in the round of 16 against the USA, Debast was at least back on the bench. However, he will now not be available to his team in the quarter-final.
