National Champion! Lukas Neumayer defends his title
The Salzburg native defeats his opponent Joel Schwärzler in the final. In the women's category, a maiden victory is achieved.
Lukas Neumayer is crowned Austrian National Champion in singles for the fourth time in his career!
In Oberpullendorf, Burgenland, the 23-year-old prevailed against Joel Schwärzler with a score of 6:4, 6:3.
After a mixed performance in the semi-final, Neumayer expressed relief in an ORF interview: "It was a really good match. I executed exactly what I set out to do on court."
"The result is cool, the win is cool, but I think even more important is that I played extremely well. It was extremely important to me before the match that I could improve my performance, after struggling a bit in the past few days and weeks."
"My greatest victory"
In the women's category, top seed Ekaterina Perelygina prevailed for the first time. In her debut at the National Championships, the 19-year-old defeated her Upper Austrian compatriot Arabella Koller with a score of 6:4, 6:0.
The talent, who has been playing for Austria since 2024, was overjoyed after her title: "I think this is my greatest victory, even though I was the top favorite. I came to Austria in 2017, couldn't speak German. I didn't know how I would manage school and tennis, and there was also the question of whether both would work out. And today I am Austrian National Champion – it feels incredible."
Changing of the Guard in Wheelchair Tennis
Schwärzler could still celebrate a title. In the doubles final, he was crowned National Champion alongside Leo Gutjahr. In the women's category, Claudia Gasparovic and Leonie Rabl won.
A remarkable success was achieved in the men's singles wheelchair tennis. The only 18-year-old Maximilian Taucher defeated eight-time National Champion Nico Langmann. Christina Pesendorfer wins the women's singles wheelchair tennis. In wheelchair tennis doubles, only the men's competition was held. Martin Hörz-Weber and Josef Riegler were crowned National Champions here.
