Tadej Pogacar completely dominated the first difficult mountain stage of this year's Tour de France.

The Slovenian superstar wins the sixth stage from Pau to Gavarnie-Gedre with a 2:38 minute lead over his fiercest rival and Giro winner Jonas Vingegaard. Third place goes to Pogacar's teammate Isaac del Toro from Mexico.

Decisive Attack on Col du Tourmalet

Pogacar launched his decisive attack on the way to his 23rd stage victory at the Tour on the ascent to the Col du Tourmalet. Initially, Del Toro could keep pace, while Vingegaard dropped off early.

Then Pogacar dropped the hammer again; at the top of the climb, the 27-year-old already had a lead of around 30 seconds over Vingegaard. The reigning world champion continuously extended this lead until the finish line, thus slipping back into the Yellow Jersey.

In the general classification, Pogacar leads Vingegaard by 2:42 minutes, while Del Toro is already 3:27 minutes behind.

Leader Crashes on Descent

Torstein Traaen started the only Pyrenean stage as the overall leader, though the Norwegian had virtually surrendered the lead already on the Tourmalet.

On the subsequent descent, Traaen touched the rear wheel of a teammate and crashed. Although the 30-year-old was able to continue his ride, it was in pain and with a significant time loss.

Over the next two days, two flat stages await, where the sprinters will once again have their chances for a stage victory.
