Sinja Kraus had to concede defeat to Spain's Oksana Selekhmeteva with a 6-1, 7-5 score in the first round of Wimbledon.

For Kraus (WTA-93.), the match actually started well with a break won against Selekhmeteva (WTA-91.). In return, however, she also dropped her serve, and conceded breaks at 2-1 and 4-1.

In between, the Spaniard held her serve without dropping a point. At the end of the first set, Kraus first missed two break opportunities, then saved three set points – but Selekhmeteva converted the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.

Kraus Fails to Capitalize on Chances

In the second set, both players initially appeared confident, but at 2-3, Kraus once again failed to convert two break opportunities. Instead, Selekhmeteva immediately broke back with a 40-0 game. Kraus continued to struggle to score consistently but fended off a first match point and made it 5-4.

Subsequently, Kraus secured her first break, making it 5-5. Once again, she couldn't carry the momentum, fending off two break opportunities from her opponent, but still conceded the 6-5. Selekhmeteva then served out the match.

With Kraus's exit, she becomes the third ÖTV player in the tournament to head home after the opening match. Previously, Anastasia Potapova and Lilli Tagger had already failed to advance.
