War of words escalates: Is KTM parting ways with Vinales prematurely?
In recent weeks, the Spaniard in particular has not held back with criticism of KTM. Besides a lack of results, this could soon cost him his job.
The relationship between Maverick Vinales and KTM appears to be heading for its definitive low point.
As reported by the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com, the manufacturer from Mattighofen is currently considering an early separation from the Spaniard.
Accordingly, Vinales might no longer compete for Tech3 at the British Grand Prix this coming weekend.
Replacement is ready
As a replacement, test rider Pol Espargaro has already been called up, and he could even take over the spot until the end of the season.
Officially, the decision is justified by the shoulder injury that Vinales has been suffering from since his crash at the Sachsenring last year.
The injury is said to still be affecting his performance this season.
Public dispute escalated
The fact that the situation has now escalated in such a way is, however, not surprising. In recent weeks, Vinales engaged in a public war of words with KTM and Tech3.
The Spaniard had recently leveled serious accusations against his employer. Among other things, he claimed that KTM had presented him with a contract for the future, which he had signed.
However, shortly after, he was informed that it was not valid. Furthermore, Vinales stated that if his MotoGP career were to end after this season, there would be "only one culprit: KTM."
KTM aims to prevent further escalation
The officials around Head of Motorsport Pit Beirer had so far refrained from public statements and announced that they would only decide on the rider line-up for 2027 during the summer break.
Internally, however, the decision is likely to have long since been made. Luca Marini and Senna Agius are being touted as riders for the Tech3 team for the upcoming season.
Against this backdrop, KTM is reportedly working on a legal and financial solution to end its collaboration with Vinales prematurely, ideally without further damage to its image.
The goal is to avoid further public confrontations during the remaining eleven race weekends.
