The women's team of Austria Wien is getting high-calibre reinforcement!

131-cap international Verena Hanshaw moves from West Ham United to the federal capital. There, she signs a contract until summer 2028.

Previously, the defender, who played for USC Landhaus in the Bundesliga until 2010, spent 16 years abroad. During this time, she played for SC Freiburg and SC Sand, among others, before moving to 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2018, where she made 114 appearances in six years.

This was followed by a spell at AS Roma, before she ultimately moved to English top-flight club West Ham United in January 2025.

Kenesei on Hanshaw: "A high-calibre transfer"

"I'm very much looking forward to returning to my home country after 16 years, as it has been a long time since I've been away. I'm looking forward to the team and getting to know all the girls, but also seeing those I've known for a long time from the national team. I've followed some games and I'm now extremely excited about the fans," says the 32-year-old.

The coach, Stefan Kenesei, is also enthusiastic: "With Verena Hanshaw, we've secured a high-calibre transfer. She brings immense international experience from various countries, including the English Women's Super League, as well as the Austrian national team, and has been one of the most consistent players at the highest level for years. Her move to Austria is a strong signal for our sporting direction and the club's development."
