Ronaldo Criticized After Thrashing Against ÖFB Duo
Ronaldo faced criticism after a heavy defeat against two Austrians. His coach defended him.
Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (41) has had anything but an ideal start to the AFC Champions League with his Saudi club Al Nassr.
In their opener on Tuesday, the Portuguese's team lost away to Al Ain (United Arab Emirates) 0-4. Austrian Valentino Lazaro played the full match for Al Ain, while countryman Adis Jasic was substituted in during the 90th minute.
After the heavy defeat, Ronaldo faced plenty of criticism. A Saudi journalist even dared to question at the post-match press conference whether Ronaldo was still helping the team at all.
Coach Reacts Angrily
"Cristiano has already scored three goals. He had only limited preparation. It's not about the players; they give their all and have great character. The responsibility lies with me," said Coach Ange Postecoglu.
The journalist countered that Ronaldo had done nothing in the last three games. The coach responded irritatedly: "He's done nothing? You're watching a different game than I am."
