With 140 international caps, the Belgian holds the second-most for the Red Devils. He is now calling it quits.
Axel Witsel is ending his career with the Belgian national team!
After 19 years and 140 international caps – the last one in the 2026 World Cup quarter-final against world champions Spain – the former Dortmund player is now drawing a line.
"I never expected to achieve so much when I started at just 18 years old," said the 37-year-old, who now wants to "make room for the youngsters and the new generation."
With his 140 international caps for the Red Devils, Witsel also played the second-most international matches for his country. Only Jan Vertonghen has more with 157.
