ÖFB international Marcel Sabitzer became Borussia Dortmund's hero on Tuesday in the DFB-Pokal match against Werder Bremen.

In stoppage time, the 32-year-old scored the 3-2 winning goal for Borussia Dortmund with a free-kick (Match report >>>).

Sabitzer "Always a Free-kick Taker"

"Sabi, please shoot," coach Niko Kovac called out to the Austrian, as the Croatian explained in an interview with "ZDF". The BVB coach undoubtedly showed a good instinct.

Sabitzer said he had "always been a free-kick taker" and was always confident when he stepped up.

"Today was a good moment for it to fly in like that. I was able to help the team, we are through, all good," Sabitzer said happily after the match.

"Sabi Has Earned This"

Teammate Nico Schlotterbeck was not convinced by the Austrian's idea at first: "He has an incredible shot. Still, I asked Daniel (Svensson) to deliver the cross. Whoever scores is right."

The German also added: "Sabi unquestionably deserves this after the last weeks and months, during which he often received unfair criticism."
