RB Leipzig just managed to avoid an embarrassing DFB-Pokal exit against Rot-Weiss Essen on Tuesday evening.

The main person responsible for this was Austrian international Christoph Baumgartner, who turned the game around with a brace, firing Leipzig to a 2-1 victory (Match report >>>).

A brace even at "80 percent"

Baumgartner was substituted on in the 62nd minute by coach Martin Demichelis, with the score 1-0 to the hosts from Essen.

The Lower Austrian equalized in the 78th minute and scored the 2-1 winning goal just a few minutes later (82nd).

However, the 27-year-old feels that he still has reserves after his injury. "I'm not at 100 yet, maybe at 80 percent," the Austrian told "SID".

"We need to be patient"

Coach Demichelis also urges caution: "I would actually like to play him from the start immediately. But we still need to be patient after his injury."

Baumgartner is primarily happy about progressing in the cup and is pleased with his role: "Nevertheless, I'm glad that I can already have an impact on games," said the 27-year-old.
